The Purchasing Managers Index for Puerto Rico stood at 56.8 in October. A reading over 50 implies an expansion of the Manufacturing industry to the previous month. The PMI has remained over the threshold for over 11 months. All subindexes had a reading above the threshold except for own inventories. Over 61.3% of manufacturing establishments are being affected by a reduction in supplier deliveries and is the main factor affecting the industry as opposed to a reduction in staff and others. The biggest challenge, however, is recruitment and absenteeism, increased costs, lack of raw material, delays in supply chain and a higher cost of transportation.
