Economic Activity Index increases 6% in October.

The Economic Activity Index (IAE) stood at 129.7 in October, the highest reading since 2014, according to data from the Economic Development Bank (BDE). The index is 6.0% above where it was in the same month last year and represents an increase of 0.2% when compared to the previous month. October is the ninth consecutive year-on-year increase.

All four components of the IAE recorded increases in October (when compared to the same month last year): employment (+2.7%), gasoline consumption (+3.3%), electricity consumption (+ 10.9%); and cement sales (5.1%).

When compared to the month of September, gasoline consumption decreased 7.2%; cement sales fell 2.6%; while employment grew 0.4%; and electricity consumption increased by 0.1%.

During the fiscal year 2023 the IAE rose 2.2%. The IAE had increased by 2.3% in fiscal year 2022 and 1.8% in 201.

The year 2022 had closed with a 2.9% increase in the IAE, after an increase of 3.1% in 2021.
