The Total Non-Farm Employment in Puerto Rico for the month of February 2023 amounted to 941,000 employments, the highest levels of employment since November 2012. These February 2023 values also are a 3.1% increase compared to the previous year’s February 2022 employments, but a minimal 0.1% increase compared to the previous month of January 2023’s employment levels.

When evaluating the major sectors in the economy all major sectors demonstrated an increase in employment, some of the sectors demonstrated considerable increments in employment such as Leisure & Hospitality (8.67%), Construction (7.57%), and Education (5.08%) compared to the previous year’s February 2022 employment values. Now while all sectors did increase and some saw considerable growths in employment, not all sectors increased by much like the Finances, Retail Sales, Government, and Manufacturing when compared to February 2022.

Evaluating by region also demonstrated that all the regions experienced an increase in employment. The regions where the most increase in employment occurred can be attributed to the Aguadilla Region (4.83%), the Mayagüez Region (4.75%), the San Germán Region (4.37%), and the Arecibo Region (3.57%); the remaining regions of the Ponce Region (2.97%), the San Juan Region (2.76%), and the Guayama Region (2.08%) still demonstrated an increase in employment but that increase in employment was less by percentage change than that for Puerto Rico as a whole when compared to the previous year’s employment.
