The Economic Activity Index (EAI) for the month of June stood at 124.3 in June, a 2.3% increase compared to the same month last year, according to data from the Economic Development Bank (BDE, for its Spanish acronym).

  • However, the Index level in June is the lowest in seven months.
  • When compared to the month of May, the IAE fell 0.6%, the second month-over-month drop in three months.
  • In fiscal year 2022, the IAE grew 4.5%, the first increase in three years.

In quarterly terms, the IAE decreased 1.0% in the second quarter, the first drop since 2020

Of the four components of the Index, three increased. Electricity consumption rose 7.6% in June compared to last year, salaried employment grew 4.9% and cement sales rose 3.7%. On the other hand, gasoline sales decreased 11.0%.
