Out of the 798,840 non-resident visitors to Puerto Rico in the year 2020, 742,739, or 93%, came from the United States, 14,927, or 1.8%, came from Europe, 10,765, or 1.3%, came from Canada, and the rest came from Asia, Latin America, Africa, and Oceania.

Within the United States, which is the most popular place of origin for inbound tourists in Puerto Rico, the state with the most visitors was Delaware, with 67,629, followed by New Mexico, with 64,725, and then New York with 61,193.

Relative to the population of their state, Delaware and New Mexico had the highest per capita totals. Other states with large amounts of visitors to the island included Vermont, Idaho, and Maine.

Total non-resident hotel registrations fell by 811,536 relative to 2019. This 50% reduction was evident in non-US visitors to the island, whose share of total visitors fell from 8.6% in 2019 to 7% in 2020.
